In line with Egypt’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainability, particularly in the electric transportation sector, EVs Electrify Egypt Summit has officially announced its launch during a press conference held at the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate’s headquarters (HQ). A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Syndicate to support the summit, which will showcase the latest technologies and innovations for the electric vehicles and means of transportation. The summit is set to take place from October 10 to 12, 2024, at Egypt International Exhibition Centre (EIEC) on El-Moshir Tantawy Axis. This partnership reflects both parties’ belief in the importance of collaboration to drive and strengthen the efforts of sustainable development in Egypt and reinforce the role of Egyptian engineers in this vital field, in alignment with Egypt’s efforts to transition to a sustainable and green economy.

The MoU is signed by Mr. Mohamed Elsaidy, EVs Electrify Egypt Summit President, and Eng. Tarek El-Nabarawy, Head of the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate. The Egyptian Engineers Syndicate has extended the invitation to its Council members and regional stakeholders to attend the summit. Members of the Communications, Information Technology, and Digital Transformation Committee from the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate in Cairo will participate in the cybersecurity and IT sessions at the summit, with the committee’s chairman serving as a keynote speaker and chairing the cybersecurity session. Additionally, the MoU provides the students from various engineering faculties the opportunity to showcase their graduation projects related to electric vehicle technology in the summit’s external exhibition area. During the last day of the summit, the Syndicate’s Committee will organize a special session titled “The Future of Electric Vehicle Technology in Egypt” in the Syndicate’s HQ, from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Commenting on the MoU signing, Mr. Mohamed Elsaidy, EVs Electrify Egypt Summit President, stated: “We are pleased to officially announce the launch of EVs Electrify Egypt Summit at this conference. The summit will be a crucial platform for sharing expertise and knowledge in the electric mobility sector, and showcasing the latest technologies and solutions in the field. It will bring together experts, specialists, and decision-makers locally and globally, supporting Egypt’s efforts to achieve its sustainable development goals.” He added, “The inclusion of the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate as an official sponsor is an addition to the summit, as it enables us to leverage the expertise of Egyptian engineers in advancing the electric transport sector and strengthening national competencies in this area. We are confident this collaboration will benefit both parties and accelerate Egypt’s transition to sustainable transportation.”

Eng. Tarek El-Nabarawy, Head of the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate, remarked: “The signing of this MoU with EVs Electrify Egypt Summit marks the culmination of our joint efforts to support the transition to electric transportation. This strategic partnership allows us to leverage the expertise and capabilities of both parties to advance this promising sector. We are committed to providing all the resources and knowledge necessary to ensure the summit’s success. In turn, this collaboration will help us develop the skills of our engineers in electric transportation, benefiting the Egyptian labor market and strengthening Egypt’s leadership in renewable energy and sustainable transport.”

The directives from political leadership underscore the significance of EVs Electrify Egypt Summit in advancing the state’s unwavering efforts to fulfill its obligations. This includes protecting the environment, promoting the local sector of electric vehicles, and the initiative by H.E Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the President of the Republic of Egypt to localize the electric car industry in Egypt. This initiative aims to transition from mere assembly to a more advanced manufacturing stage, increasing the proportion of local components and developing industries that support the local components. Additionally, it emphasizes the state’s role in environmental sustainability, the transition to clean energy, and the implementation of the Egypt 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy, which serves as a foundational pillar for building the new republic.

The summit is supported by several ministries and government agencies, including the Egyptian Cabinet, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, the Arab Organization for Industrialization, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC), the National Authority for Management and Investment, the Internal Trade Development Authority (ITDA), the Egyptian African Businessmen’s Association, the Electronics Research Institute, and the Scientific & Technology Park for Electronics Research & Industry (STPERI).

EVs Electrify Egypt Summit is designed to expedite the transition to sustainable transportation in Egypt.

The event will feature in-depth discussions and workshops with international, regional, and local experts, and leading companies in the field. It will provide a platform for dialogue sessions addressing the latest advancements in battery technology, car charging, and the required infrastructure. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to test drive the latest electric vehicle models and discover their benefits and exceptional performance. The summit will also facilitate signing several MoUs among various stakeholders to enhance collaboration and coordination in the electric vehicle sector. The event’s ultimate goal is to foster cooperation between the public and private sectors and attract the necessary investments to develop Egypt’s electric car industry, aligning with the country’s goals of achieving carbon neutrality and promoting sustainable development.
